What's been going on...

This post is all words, no pictures… but I will upload pictures and little stories about them this afternoon… right now I just wanted to say a little about what’s been going on.
------
So I have been urged by a friend who says I need an update! So here I am. I honestly thought maybe one person read this… now I’m happy to know at least 2 people do so I am writing for a purpose =). I guess I haven’t been able to write much lately because I got a lot going on with a new job and working out a whole bunch and really just trying to keep our lives on track. I am actually training for a marathon… which is coming up way too soon by the way… so I run 4 times a week with one long run on Saturday’s. This past weekend, I ran 17 miles! A huge accomplishment for me. Although I have always been athletic, I consider myself a non-runner. But it is honestly not hard to do with a schedule and some commitment (and family support to watch Vince). I did outdo myself last week though and have a “medial tibular stress reaction” in my lower leg… I have to start biking and swimming more to give my legs a break… Okay, I was off on a tangent… back to what’s been going on with the little one…

Vince sometimes makes me not want an additional kid anytime soon. [Is that bad to say?] He’s just a handful. (Except when he’s sleeping, then he’s my little angel). Lately he is throwing tantrums when he doesn’t get what he wants… and he is too little to reason with. We tell him no, but he either laughs or gets really mad and goes limp. I guess that’s the problem when kids get to their terrible two’s – you can’t reason with them, but the thing is he’s only 14 months… so I’m a little scared to see what’s in store for us in a few months. He has his good moments too of course and I think he is the most adorable thing in the world. He’s learning things like a sponge. Mimicking our dog Leila by barking like her…. He loves dancing and moves his hands up and down when he wants you to turn on the music. And he LOVES picking the yellow flowers (that are actually weeds) every chance he gets. He does not like any other flower other than the yellow weed ones. After he picks them, he likes to put them in a cup so we always have to have a cup ready for him when he comes inside.

Back to Vince learning…. Like I said, he’s learning fast…. So David and I are trying to figure out the best way to get him to learn more. We both work and my mom stays home with him so David and I don’t feel like we can directly teach him a lot since time is not on our side during the week. We also want to give my mom a break from watching him day in and day out (did I say he was a handful?)… so we tried a Mother’s Day out program at a local church that is T/Th from 9-2pm. Day 1 was really bad. Vince cried for 45 minutes straight (sorry ladies who watched him). They tried to comfort him, but all he wanted was his “Da” – which is me. (David is da da – V can say mnam mnam when he wants food, but can’t say the ma sound for me yet). I know I was the hovering mom calling a couple times that day and observing at lunch, but hey, it’s my son and I have no idea how he’s going to react to other people and I just want to stay informed. I did see V steal another kids sippy cup when the ladies were not looking and pull another kids hair. Day 2 and 3 were a little better, only about 10 minutes of crying when I dropped him off. Day 4… well there has been no day 4. Vince got a cold and that was my excuse not to take him on day 4 and 5. And the program ends next month so I think we are calling it quits. I have several reasons why, but mostly because by the time he gets used to other people, the program will be over, and I don’t think “the ladies” teach him anything, but really just babysit him. In September another class starts with older kids where they do crafts and music and I think he will have a lot of fun there…. So hopefully that’s where he will be in a few months.

That’s really all that’s been going on… me running, Vince learning and getting mad when he doesn’t get what he wants (but then again, don’t we all… I guess as we grow up, we learn to reason and deal with it). David and my mom have been so great at watching Vince while I fit in my runs. I have also started working from home lately once a week. It’s greatness. No getting ready in the morning and driving to drop Vince off, then to work, then back home for lunch, then back to work, then picking V up. I have even fit in my runs on my lunch break when I am working from home. I am really liking my new job.

Well, that's it for now... I'll revisit this page soon and post some pictures...
