Vince the Fish

Vince’s last swimming class was this last night. We have been taking swimming classes for almost 5 months now… since he was a little over 6 months old. We had not been to class since before Christmas, so we were a little worried that he would forget how to hold his breath, but he surprised us and didn’t miss a beat! He had such a good time last night. He was kicking and kicking when he was in his motor boat chasing balls.

He also held his breath for 10 seconds under water! He started at one second when we first started going and have been adding seconds ever since. Yesterday was the first time he did 10!

We will probably sign him up for more classes sometime in the next couple months. We want him to be really comfortable with the water since we have a pool at home.

Changing the subject… this past week we bought this neat soccer ball field blow up thing for Vince. We say it’s for his birthday party, but I think we just wanted to buy it. It came with 25 balls, but Vince loves, loves balls, so we made a trip to Toys-r-us Sunday morning and bought him 250 more! The balls were making his hair very staticy as you can tell in the picture.

In other Vince news... he found that if he puts things in his mouth, he can crawl easier.

New Kicks

Vince got his real first pair or walking shoes! It's a pre-birthday present from my mom....

I can tell the shoes are already helping support him walking.

Speaking of walking... he is getting more courage! You can see in the video below how he walks from thing to thing (after beating up Leila).

More Christmas

It’s been awhile… so much to catch up on… first, some pics we took at the house...

The day after my last post I finally got on the facebook bandwagon. Everyone is on there, so I have had a good time learning how to use it and read everyone’s updates. I downloaded the phone application and whenever I have downtime, I have been looking at everyone’s status updates… that is until I dropped my phone one last time and it froze on me. I knew I couldn’t drop it that much and not reap the consequences. I need to be more careful! I’ll get a new (refurbished) phone this afternoon so I can finally get back in touch with the world. Anyways, back to what’s been going on.

The Sunday before Christmas, my family and I got together for our annual tamale making party. The only difference this year was Vince was around. For about 2 hours I had to watch him and couldn’t join in the tamale making / talking. David finally came for Vince so I was able to participate. Later that night, all the boys joined our party in progress and we ate the tamales!! It was basically our family’s xmas, so we did presents after dinner and had a great time.

Tuesday we took off to San Diego to visit David’s brother Danny who is in the Navy and his family. David went to the Poinsettia bowl the night we got there and I went to the mall with Danny’s wife and kids. It was a bad bad night… I should have known better than to take Vince shopping after his Texas bedtime. The next few days were filled with lots and lots of food! Calories don’t count because it’s the holidays, right? We also spent some time in La Jolla, a little north of San Diego, where David’s aunt/uncle just finished building a beautiful house that overlooks the ocean. The house even had an elevator! It is really nice and we look forward to visiting them in the future.

Christmas morning was fun. It was nice to be with a family that got to open a bunch of gifts! It made me remember old times when I was younger with my sister’s and I opening gifts around the tree. David’s niece is 4 and got a pink Barbie jeep. It was the biggest present ever! You can see it in the picture above all wrapped up behind Vince. He loved it!! I guess we need to buy him a pink jeep …. j/k. Maybe he’ll get a man-ly jeep in the future. Vince knows that your supposed to move the wheel back and forth like your driving. It’s the cutest thing.

Oh… and Vince is walking much more! He took 18 steps while we were in San Diego. He is getting more and more courage. This past Monday he took 30 steps! Of course his steps are really small and he looks like Frankenstein when he is walking. Sometimes, he is going straight and veers off the path accidentally and starts walking somewhere else. We are very excited he is now walking… a little scared… but excited! Hmm… where can you buy those baby leashes?

When we got home, Vince opened a couple of presents from Santa. He really liked his little basketball game until we put batteries in it and it started making noise. He also really liked his new walker. He is walking with it really well!

Christmas fun

Countdown to Christmas is underway… it’s coming so fast! The thing I’m really looking forward to is time off! I’ve probably complained on here before, but it’s hard hard hard to work and keep a working/clean household. Thank goodness we don’t have anything planned tonight… that may give me enough time to finally get to our laundry! Isn’t it funny the things we look forward to.

Last night I got together with a few friends from work... David took Vince home early and I got to stay out past 10! On a work night too! We all had a good time. It's nice to visit with old friends...

Vince can walk! He took a couple steps last week, but hadn't done anything since.... So last night I was at a meeting and David was video taping and got him taking 5 or 6 steps several times! He looks a little tipsy ;) .

Mommy and me weekend

Man, the life of a single mom is hard… not that I know really because I have a great hubby and a lot of help, but this past weekend was Tiana and Vince together 100%. David went out of town last minute to see the DeLaHoya fight, which left Vince and I alone to fend for ourselves. I didn’t mind too much because there was a lot I wanted to get done, like Christmas shopping and things around the house. But I’m not going to lie, doing little things alone with Vince were hard… like trying to order food & carry food & find a seat at the food court, with a baby and stroller. There was also a point where I exited a store and realized Vince was missing a toy and a sock.. and the decision to go back in and look in everyone’s shopping carts was a hard one to make… given V fights me to get in his car seat, and he was already tucked away snuggly. But hey… we got his toy and his sock back!

I met my cousin and her kids Sunday night at the Gaylord because we both wanted some good pictures of the kiddos. We got to the Santa area at 6:20 and they finished Santa pictures at 6! Santa was still standing there, and they wouldn’t let us even take one picture with our camera… how unChristmas like! We got some great pictures though. It was so hard to get Vince’s attention for the pictures. He sat in a bed of poinsettias for a long time… he was trying to eat the dirt and I was trying to make him smile. And for the other pictures, my cousin would hold Vince and try to keep her hands out of the picture while I made silly noises. We got a couple good ones… a couple out of 50, not too too bad!!

Mommy and Vince weekend ended with us both exhausted. Lots of quality time was spent together… Now it’s back to work. I am grateful my mom is around to help me out so Vince get’s quality time around the clock without me pulling my hair out!

First post - post black Friday

A friend of mine says I MUST start a blog now that I got a new camera to take pictures of Vince. I think that’s the push I needed to do this as I wouldn’t on my own. So here I go. I am posting the new recent pictures of Vince that we took when playing with the new camera. They are so cute, I can’t stop looking at them…. really. But that’s what mom’s do right? We got the camera after waiting in line at Best Buy starting at 3am. Yes we are crazy, but I think it’s fun. I went to JCPenny’s while David stood in line and was in the dressing room at 4am. It was so weird but such a rush. There were great deals everywhere, so if I want to shop, why not shop when everything is on supersale… Anyways… now I turn my attention from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I don’t know when I’ll have time to put up decorations… get out Christmas cards… shop for presents… how do normal working parents fit it all in? I thought I had a good start, but now I just keep thinking of more and more to do and it there is just too much. But I did find time for a blog though J.
